Learning Outcome 2

Elements of musicianship: accuracy of rhythm, pitch and intonation; expression; interpretation appropriate to the genre/style of the music; confidence

Communication: musical communication with accompanist/band if appropriate; musical communication with audience.

In order to do my 20 - 30 minutes of solo performance, I needed to find a suitable venue or event to perform at. Seeing as I am mainly a drummer, and drums are very loud, I couldn't do my performances at other venues and small events that my class mates performed at as it was just impractical. However, I eventually came across the Music On The Meadows festival happening in Henley which I got involved with organising. Since this was being held outside in a large open area, It seemed perfect to do some drum solos without deafening everyone. Unfortunately due to a busy schedule, I was only allocated a 10 minute set. For this reason I was only able to perform two of my drum pieces.

This is the first one I performed. It is a drum cover of Rope by the Foo Fighters. I managed to get hold of a drumless track, so all the drums you hear are me.

The second song I performed was a drum improvisation to Heartbreaker by Michael Jackson. I made sure to EQ the original track so that the original beat didn't interfere too much with the sound of my drums. Here is is.

Due to unfortunately not being able to do more than 10 minutes, I instead perfomed my other planned pieces at home on camera. This shows that I am able to play the pieces with the pressure of camera and microphones recording me. These were done in one live take.

This is a cover of Around The World by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

This is a cover of Under Cover of Darkness by The Strokes.

This is a cover of One More Night by Maroon 5.

I also performed the two guitar pieces I mentioned. The first one I played was my guitar composition. Here it is.

The second piece I played is called Mexicana:
